Nils-Lennart ble utdannet ved Stockholms Universitet og Yale University. Han tok doktorgrad ved Stockholms Universitet i 1976, hvor tittelen på avhandlingen hans var The English Modal Auxiliaries: A Stratificational Account. Siden den tid har han arbeidet ved universitetene i Lund (forskarassistent, 1977) og Stockholm (forskarassistent, docent, universitetslektor 1978-91). Han var professor i engelsk språkvitenskap ved Engelsk institutt i Trondheim 1991-2000. Han er nå professor i ‘engelska språket’ ved Stockholms universitet.

Tidligere har Nils-Lennart publisert følgende: English Language Essays (1986), The Dress of Thought (1986), Nonstandard Varieties of Language (ed., with G. Melchers; 1994) og Basic English Morphology (1996). For tiden arbeider han med et prosjekt kalt «En undersøkelse av språket i Ormulum (en 1100-talls East Midland dialekt)».


Nils-Lennart was educated at Stockholm University and Yale University. He received a Ph.D. from the former in 1976, the title of his dissertation being The English Modal Auxiliaries: A Stratificational Account. Since then he has been working at Lund University as a Junior Resarch Fellow, 1977; at Stockholm University as a Junior Research Fellow, Docent, and Senior Lecturer, 1978-1991; and at the University of Trondheim / NTNU as a Professor of English Linguistics 1991-2000. He is now Professor of the English Language at Stockholm University.

His publications include English Language Essays (1986), The Dress of Thought (1986), Nonstandard Varieties of Language (ed., with G. Melchers; 1994) and Basic English Morphology (1996). Currently he is working on a research project called: ‘An investigation of the language of the Ormulum (a 12th century East Midland dialect)’.
